For a while now I've been looking for the opportunity to shoot team photos. Not sure what kind of sport, or which team. All I knew is that I just wanted to be able to do my first sport related team shoot. I would stay up late at night doing research and tossing around ideas of how I would shoot these. I looked at examples that I liked and noted what it was about them that I liked, and then I would look at photos that I didn't like so much. Then it happened. I had my first opportunity to shoot for my nephews team, who took over as a coach for his alma mater's lacrosse team. Finally, with the opportunity to shoot, I went out and practiced.
I took out a good friend and set up shop at a nearby park. We shot for a good hour or two ( who keeps track of time when you are doing what you love?) and made notes of our settings. With the work in hand I felt prepared. On the day of the shoot I took my younger sister and my son. We had a game plan, all we needed to do was execute. Mother nature seemed to disagree with that. So what was a two light setup with PLM's turned to a single beauty dish setup due to strong winds. After settling down, I was able to go thru my shoot smoothly, we packed things up and left somewhat unsatisfied for having to change things up.
Like most shoots, I got home and I distanced myself from my camera. Not sure why, but I don't like to look at my images the same day. I need a break. So when I finally popped the memory card in the computer, I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Maybe that's why I don't look at them the same day? Not sure, but I went thru the images, a few times before I finally got the desired results. I'm happy. Team photos that don't look like the ones you would get from your local league, in my opinion. So please, click on the link below and check them out. I'm curious to know what you think. And who knows, maybe...just maybe, I might write another post like this later.
